Mini 7s Results – Westport Area (Girls)

Well done to the 12 schools that took part in the girls mini sevens at Kilmeena GAA pitch on Friday Oct 14th in glorious sunshine!

Following the round robin games, Scoil Phádraig, Newport NS, Gaelscoil Na Cruaiche and Fahy NS qualified for the semi finals.

Following two epic battles Gaelscoil Na Cruaiche met Fahy in the final.

The scoring power of the Gaelscoil girls told in the final as they ran out winners despite a gallant effort from the Fahy girls.

Thanks to all the teams who took part and made the competition a success.

Thanks to Kilmeena GAA club for the use of their facilities and a huge thank you to Mel Kenny and Brian Kilkelly for refereeing all the games.

Fancy a game of Rounders? We’re looking for schools to participate in a Rounders Introduction Day

Cumann na mBunscol Rounders Introduction Day

MAYO_1

This school year we intend to relaunch Rounders as part of the annual Cumann na mBunscol range of activities.

As I’m sure you are aware, Rounders is a fantastic team game, suitable for boys and girls. It is a limited contact sport so it’s perfect for both recreational and competitive play. It draws on a different set of skills to other GAA sports, both tactically and physically.

We will be running Rounders introduction days, to be held in the CoE in Bekan before Hallowe’en 2016. Dates are to be confirmed. These days will be facilitated by GAA Rounders coaches and will include:

  • Ball skills
  • Batting skills
  • Throwing drills
  • Running/sprints drills
  • Practice games
  • Team building and having lots of fun!

There will also be a Connacht Rounders Day, to which some of the Mayo schools will be invited.

Initially, this introduction day will be offered to children in 3rd and 4th classes in large schools (4 teachers plus) and 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in smaller schools.

Please fill out the online application below or click here

Official Rules are here FYI: Rounders Rule Book
