*Note on County Finals*

Due to adverse weather conditions and the demand for McHale Park, county final dates have yet to be confirmed. We have requested three days to run our finals and a fourth day to run our Small Schools’ Day. We are hoping to hear from the County Board in the next few weeks with confirmation of dates providing the main pitch is made available to us. We feel it is very important that as many children as possible play on our county pitch. For the past few years our finals have taken place on Mondays in the last two weeks in May and first Tuesday/second Monday in June. If you feel that you might be involved then it might be a good idea to avoid these dates when booking school tours. As soon as dates are confirmed we will inform you all.

Division 6 , small schools blitz TBC (Mid June)

Divisions1,1B 4& 5 are pretty much the same as last year and can be ran off the same way. We have a change to Division 2B. Second placed teams will progress from each group into the B competition. Teams that win Div 1/1B and Div 2/2B are excluded from entering the B competitions the following year. The B competitions are to encourage weaker teams and give more schools an opportunity to play in a county semi-final / final . There is a separate attachment to this email for D2teams with a format that hopefully will work. Division 3 has been divided into 4 groups with the winner from each qualifying for county semi-finals. There are six weeks left until county semis, so that should leave ample time for all fixtures to be played. If I have someone in a wrong division or have left somebody out or you want a change, please get in touch with either myself or James. Best of luck everyone.

Here are just a few of the basic rules that apply across all division

  • Mouthguards/Gumshields are mandatory. No gumshields, no game.
  • Neutral referees as far as possible. A list of referees for all areas can be found on the official Mayo GAA website.
  • Two movements of the ball allowed with all frees/sidelines/45’s/kickouts from the hand.
  • Score difference is never to be used in determining results or groups. There is nothing to be gained in racking up big scores against weaker opposition. It goes against all we are trying to promote. Give respect, get respect.

New @MayoGAA coaching programme for primary schools

This weekend sees the launch of a new primary schools coaching programme which will commence after Easter.

MAYO_1

This year, Mayo GAA Coaching & Games Committee in conjunction with Cumann na mBunscol Mhaigh Eo are launching a new coaching programme for primary schools.

This unique programme has been developed by teachers and the Mayo GAA Games Development Officers, with input from members of the PDST (Professional Development Service for Teachers) PE team. The programme will combine elements of the GAA’s “Fun Do” programme and the PDST’s “Move Well, Move Often” physical literacy programme.

Children will receive weekly sessions in their school with our Games Development Officers which will target the 15 Fundamental Movement Skills and specific football skills all in an environment that encourages fun and participation for children of all abilities. The coaching will focus on children in 3rd and 4th classes.*

Participation in this programme is the perfect way for schools to begin their “GAA 5 Star Centre” journey.

More information on this programme will be published here over the coming weeks.

Thanks to our quizmaster Pat Dowling, to James Feeney who set the questions and to An Sportlán for facilitating us. Also, thanks to all the teachers who helped out on the night and indeed all those who organised and facilitated local quizzes around the county earlier this year.
