Rounders takes centre stage in McHale Park! #mayogaa

Almost 70 children participated in our half-time exhibitions in Elverys McHale Park on Saturday night. The children of Aghamore NS and Ballyvarry NS played out a great game at the town end of the field while Crimlin NS, Straide NS, SN Bhéal an Bhulláin and SN Gob a Choire displayed their football skills in front of the Bacon Factory end. The games were officiated by our Young Whistlers from Brackloon NS.

Meanwhile, the children of Craggagh NS and Breaffy NS took part in our first ever rounders exhibition. The sound of the sliotar cracking off the rounders bat was a new experience for the 11,500 supporters inside the stadium. The children put on a wonderful exhibition, displaying for all to see what a thoroughly enjoyable game rounders can be.

Following on from our rounders initiative in 2016, we hope to run a number of blitzes around the county this summer, culminating in a county final in mid June. Rounders is a brilliant team game and we are delighted to be reintroducing it to our list of activities.

Of course, we will need teachers around the county to help run our blitzes. If you would like to see rounders in your area and are willing to help out please contact Danny Charlton here: CraggaghNS@gmail.com

You can see some of the action from our halftime exhibition by clicking on the Twitter link at the bottom of this page (thanks to Michael Maye)

Spring Exhibition Report | Mayo v Monaghan | Feb 4th 2016

A crowd of over 10,000 people witnessed the first of our Spring Exhibitions in McHale Park on Saturday night. While the home crowd may have left feeling a little disappointed at the result of the senior game, the same could not be said for the children of four Mayo schools who took to the field at half time.

A light frost was beginning to cover the grass as the players of Monaghan and Mayo left the field for their well earned halftime break.

The large crowd were then treated to two excellent displays of football and hurling by the children of Newport, Currabaggan, Behy and Barnacarroll.

There was some great action as the young players showed off the skills they’ve been learning in their schools and clubs. The future of Mayo GAA is very bright indeed!

Huge thanks as always to Billy McNicholas, Adrian Hession and the team of Mayo GAA coaches who were out in full force on the night to help out with setting up pitches and umpiring.

Our next Exhibition will be for the visit of Roscommon on Feb 25th, another Saturday night under lights, when we will hold our first ever rounders exhibition!

Hurling Exhibition

Kilmovee & St Pat’s  hurlers participating in our halftime exhibitions in 2014

As the Allianz NLF rolls back into town this Saturday night with the visit of Monaghan to McHale Park, so too do our football and hurling exhibitions.

This weekend will see children from four of schools schools take to the pitch at half time to display their skills.

Barnacarroll and Behy schools will play in our hurling exhibitions while Newport and Currabaggan will take part in our football exhibitions.

We will be running exhibitions throughout the NFL for Mayo’s home games. We wish all players and their teachers the best of luck for this occasion!
